I really appreciate the “true dat” Breaking Bad depiction of addiction, lying, and relationship complications. In a season three episode, Jesse’s rehab counselor shares the story of accidentally killing his six-year old daughter while high on cocaine. His confession helps Jesse accept his own culpability and forgiveness regarding his girlfriend’s death from an overdose.
Sometimes the “baddest” habit we have to break is that of hiding from our own conscience. Facing ourselves and acknowledging that we have, at times, been the “bad guy” is the first step to receiving the healing of forgiveness.
When my conscience throws me under the bus, I say, “You’re right. I’ve screwed up. But, that’s no surprise. I’m now focusing on breaking bad…from those habits.”
