Death by Perfectionism

perfectionism

And the crash is coming.

Three ways perfectionism will kill us:

  1. By shaming us to death; killing our self-respect, our relationships, our hope
  2. By killing the spirit of others who have to try to be perfect in order to live and work with us
  3. By snuffing out the gifts we won’t give to the world “because they are not perfect enough” and “if we can’t do it perfectly, we won’t do it at all”

First steps to getting over perfectionism:

  1. Decide you want to live without fear of being human
  2. Decide you want to thrive by embracing vulnerability
  3. Decide you want others to thrive because you didn’t (a) drive them crazy or (b) withhold the good you could have done
