The Beautiful, Average (and Delusional) Struggle

The manufacturers of Dove products affixed the words “Beautiful” and “Average” above side-by-side entry doors of a large building and recorded who went through which door. Their objective was to help women recognize their own beauty.

In general terms, a lot of us need help with self-image issues. Some don’t. Some people are born thinking they are hot and don’t need to be coaxed to use the “Beautiful Door.” The rest of us spend a lot of time thinking about our flaws.

I think I would have chosen the “Average Door” primarily to connect with the many who feel average (and to avoid appearing delusional or arrogant).

If I ever enter the “Beautiful Door,” it would only be to acknowledge the beautiful miracle of everyone, including me. Good reason.
