And What Is Really Important Today?

I thought this might be worth a repeat. I hope I am right. #hope #depression #mentalhealth #overcomers

Two-Minute Tune-Up

This quote may sound silly or absurd until its context is considered. Etty Hillesum died in Auschwitz at the age of 29. Before that she had learned…

  • to find peace in a “quiet inner corner” of her mind (in spite of the horror all around her)
  • complete awareness and enjoyment of very basic pleasures previously taken for granted (breathing, for example)
  • that protecting her soul from despair, greed, selfishness, and hatred was more crucial than protecting her possessions (and her life)
  • that truly seeing, accepting, and caring for other human beings brought great peace (even in the absolute worst circumstances)

I don’t know about you, but the peace I have in a day is in direct proportion to how much I learn from people such as Etty Hillesum.
