For several years, my mission has been helping others reject the dead end role of playing the victim. Yet, just the other day, after finishing a rousing presentation on the subject, the awareness that I had slipped into the victim role with a family member slapped me right off my pedestal!
My first response was to deny and justify my complaints of feeling persecuted (versus challenged) and helpless (versus empowered).
When I finally sought personal growth and improvement rather than rescuing, I learned a heck of a lot about myself from my family member’s perspective, and how to stay empowered for the future.
How did I recognize that I had fallen into the dreaded drama triangle?
