Success Is Overrated

In the grocery store, I see a (once beautiful and wealthy) woman tormented by Alzheimer’s, accompanied by a seemingly heartless caregiver. She triggers a stark memory of a former CEO who is now angry, and almost catatonic, living in a nursing facility.

Later, when I am tempted to be resentful of a twenty-something who already has an Ivy-League education and a New York Times Bestseller, I remember them and keep things in perspective instead.

Our success or lack of success is so much more temporary than we are led to believe.

I do much better when I lighten up about success and just give this day all I’ve got!
