Plunge Into the Pain of Discovery

The slap in the face of criticism, seemingly adverse circumstances, and radical change are only leading us into our new life.

We can have uninterrupted happiness, or at least peace, if we quit defending our pre-event condition.

One pleasant side-effect is that we don’t look ridiculous holding on to the skeleton of a lost cause.

Believe me; our illusion is much clearer to everyone else than to us.

Detour School

I reluctantly read my first Jack Reacher novel. Don’t usually read this genre, but have to admit, I had at least two take-aways:

  1. Fictional albeit, Reacher’s amazing courage and healthy detachment is a powerful inspiration and reminder that “hero status” is my responsibility and my possibility. (Validating Joseph Campbell’s theory that myth enlarges our world.)
  2. In the book, Reacher had a rare lapse of foresight and was thrown two-hundred miles off course at the worst imaginable time, without means to communicate to someone waiting in a precarious place for him. Instead of despairing, he stayed calm. As a result, he solved his case because of the detour (following a U-Haul truck, meditating on its mindless ad!)

Fretting never got me anywhere. Loving a detour may.

Will It Be Yes Today?

It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure…

The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.

– Joseph Campbell

Whatever your day is or will be…I hope your yes will ring out loud and clear. Your life is worth it!

Yes-WholeBody

Two-Minute Tune-Up 10.7.12 What Drives You?

Are your decisions motivated by fear or love?

Do you wake up with dread or gratitude?

Is self-protection or self-actualization your daily agenda?

Are you getting by or gaining ground?

Settling in or stretching forward?

Are you fueled by a growing love for people and beauty or by a growing distaste or apathy?

Are you becoming more tolerant or more intolerant?

More interested in others cultures and experiences or less curious about things that are unfamiliar?

More energetic or more lethargic?

Periodically checking the mechanisms that drive us is the first step to living the life we’ve dreamed of.

Two-Minute Tune-up 2.11.12 Effortless Living

Not many people would use this term to describe their life.

But, if we remembered that the success of our life is inherent in the “seed” of who we are, we might be able to achieve our dreams with much less effort.

As a seed planted in a garden doesn’t have to worry and fret about what it will become, neither will we if we only nourish the “seed of our being” with the care and attention it deserves.

Surrender, trust, and enjoy your uniqueness. Do what you love to do. Pursue what comes naturally. Get paid for who you are.

One way or another, we all have to find what best fosters the flowering of our humanity in this contemporary life, and dedicate ourselves to that.
– Joseph Campbell
