Are You a Stiff?

A daily, simple stretching routine transforms my stiff back and tight legs into free, painless agents for working and playing. It still amazes me how quickly I go from slowly creaking around to quick, carefree maneuvering.

Same is true about my spirit.

I might wake up feeling down, pathetic, wimpy, troubled, or disappointed. After, a simple “stretching routine” of reading, meditation, prayer, gratitude, and/or affirmations, wow! I am suddenly a spiritual track star, leaping over obstacles in a single bound. It is really hard to explain the transformation.

Feeling Cramped?

I had always heard about the importance of stretching, but didn’t start my own stretching routine until I suffered from leg cramps and Sciatica. Ouch. I don’t like stretching but it has been the least painful alternative.

Skipping a mental stretching routine, also has consequences.

When we feel like we are getting claustrophobic or desperately need a vacation, some breathing room, or to get away from our lives, expanding our inner landscape is always an option available to us. A beach isn’t.

Gotta find it inside first.

Two Minute Tune-up 9.16.11 Daily “Stretch”

A person’s mind, stretched to a new idea, never goes back to its original dimension.

– Oliver Wendell Holmes

It’s so easy to do this with a book or an audio, a TED video a day, or, oh so many other options. And, if I commit to a daily “stretch”, these are the possible benefits:

1) I won’t be a bigot

2) I will be more interesting to others

3) I won’t be bored

4) I won’t be small-minded

5) I will GROW until I die and won’t be an old, cranky person

And, the cool thing is that, as with physical exercise, I’ll feel better about myself!
